Kay Radio Site Buildings

Kay Radio’s pre-fabricated fiberglass buildings provide a strong, maintenance free shelter for your valuable equipment. Our buildings are primarily rectangular in shape, with sufficient radius at corners and all edges so as to maintain the specified thickness of fiberglass.

Skids and Bottom Frame construction consist of 6” beams run the length of each building, on 6’ centers. The floor supports are 2 ½” x 2 ½” x 1/4” angle on 16” centers. The Perimeter supports are also 2 ½” x 2 ½” x 1/4”. Skids and bottom are all welded construction and then hot dipped galvanized.

The floors in our buildings are 12” x 12” vinyl tile on ¾” fir plywood of exterior grade. The flooring ¾” AC plywood coated with fiberglass on the bottom side, and bolted onto the steel bottom frame with ¼” flathead bolts on 16” centers.

The building frames are of 2” x 4” spruce stud construction on 16” centers. Bottom 2” x 4” plates are bolted on 30” centers through the flooring and steel perimeter support with 3/8” galvanized bolts. Top plates are double 2” x 4” for extra strength.

Our roof frames are 2” x 6” joists on 24” centers, cut on radius to have a minimum 2 ½” on the ends.

Outside walls and roof are constructed of 3/8” AC fir plywood fastened with galvanized ring shank nails. Insulation is installed in the building with 4” in walls and 6” in ceilings. 3/8” AC plywood is also used for the ceiling, then primed and finish coated.

The exterior finish is sprayed with a mixture of polyester resin and chopped fiberglass, 1/8” thick on the sides and the roof. A final coat of gel coat is applied after the chopping process is completed. Wall openings for air conditioners and coax cable entrances are fiber glassed and have aluminum hoods to protect them from the elements.

The standard door is a steel 3068 insulated unit, completely weather stripped with 3 steel hinges and deadbolt lock. Optionally an aluminum door with frame and stainless steel hinges can be provided. Either door will come with an aluminum hood.

The electrical wiring inside surface mounted EMT conduit meets all electrical codes. A breaker distribution panel of 100-amp minimum capacity is installed. A separate circuit is provided for each piece of equipment or other electrical device. Lighting is provided by dual fluorescent overhead between each row of radio equipment.
